Monarch Butterfly Grove Opens Saturday, Oct. 27

Well, finally that day has arrived. This Saturday is opening day for the Pismo State Beach Monarch Butterfly Grove. The grove is staffed daily from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, with docent programs at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm.

Mark your calendars now and plan on bringing your lawn chairs to the streets of Pismo Beach for the 34th Annual Pismo Beach Marching Band Review and Drumline Competition on Saturday, November 03, 2012 starting at 8:45am. Come support music programs from all around the state of California, expecially the local Judkins "Golden Panther" Marching Band.

These kids are pretty good and thrive off your support. As music programs get slashed across the state of California, it's great to see some hope for the future.

Then, balance yourself for the surfing competition on Saturday. Or, if you don't like to surf, the Clam Festival Parade is a wonderful way to embrace the small town charm that defines Pismo Beach! All these things will probably make you hungry, which is why there is a Clam Chowder Cookoff on Saturday from noon to 2. Finally, bring the kids to the beach Sunday from 12-1 for a clam dig! The Pismo Beach Clam Festival is happening this coming Friday thru Sunday, October 19-21.

This year's festivities include a wine walk from 5-7:30pm on Friday; surfing, a parade and a clam chowder cook-off on Saturday; and a clam dig on Sunday.

Also, there will be a beer and wine garden on both Saturday and Sunday from 11am-5pm. And, of course, live entertainment will give the weekend a soundtrack to remember it by...

Gidget's Coming to SLO--Yes, The Real One

Kathy Kohner Zuckerman, the girl who challenged social norms by picking up a surfboard and taking on the waves of Malibu as Gidget will give a presentation at the San Luis Obispo screening of ACCIDENTAL ICON: The Real Gidget Story, playing Wednesday, October 10 at the Fremont Theatre in San Luis Obispo at 7:30pm.

Director Brian Gillogly and surf legend/pioneer, Linda Benson, will also be on hand for a pre-show reception and a lively Q&A session after the film. The screening is free, with a suggested donation of $15 ($10 for students.)

The meet-and-greet reception is happening before the film at Luis Wine Bar from 5:30-7:00pm and Kathy will be signing "Gidget" books too! Tickets for the reception are$50 tickets for the reception include food, wine, beer and a chance to chat with all the special guests. All proceeds for the party and the film directly benefit the Women's Legacy Fund and the 2013 SLO Film Festival. To purchase reception tickets, click here!. 17th Annual City to the Sea Fun Run - October 14!

City to the Sea Half Marathon
On your mark, get set. GOOOOOOOOO to the Central Coast, where you will encounter the world's most scenic race.

The 17th Annual City to the Sea point-to-point half marathon is happening October 14. Thr race starts in the lovely mountains of San Luis Obispo and ends in one of Pismo Beach's most captivating vistas-- The Dinosaur Caves Park. If you've never been to the area, the half marathon is one of the best ways to immerse yourself in the beautiful downtown, backroads, and towns of SLO and Pismo.

Running has never been this enjoyable.

And for those who don't want to go that extra (few) mile(s), the program offers a 5K and Fun Run too!

Jubilee by the Sea: October 26-28, 2012

The Basin Street Regulars are hosting the 36th Annual "Jubilee by the Sea", a wonderful jazz festival held in venues throughout beautiful Pismo Beach. Fans of all ages make the pilgrimage to Pismo every year for this authentic tribute to jazz. Shuttle buses run continuously throughout the three days of the festival to ensure that you can make it to the shows you want to catch.

All venues have hardwood floors so that you can dance your heart out with that special someone. There are three-day tickets, one-day tickets and student tickets. The festival consists of about 120 one-hour performances, with 20 bands plus guest artists.
