Clam Currency? Only in Pismo Beach! |
Indeed, the Smithsonian Museum of American History has featured Pismo Beach in its new coin exhibit. Interestingly enough, Pismo became so desperate during the Great Depression that some residents actually used clams for coins. Pismo Beach is known best as the Clam Capital of the World, and it surely lives up to its name.
See this link to the Smithsonian Museum for more details! The clam currency to the left is dated March 8, 1933!
