Pismo Beach's Unique History... Now Seen at the Smithsonian!

Clam Currency? Only in Pismo Beach!
Did you know that the humble town of Pismo Beach is recognized in the nation's most prestigious history museum?

Indeed, the Smithsonian Museum of American History has featured Pismo Beach in its new coin exhibit. Interestingly enough, Pismo became so desperate during the Great Depression that some residents actually used clams for coins. Pismo Beach is known best as the Clam Capital of the World, and it surely lives up to its name.

See this link to the Smithsonian Museum for more details! The clam currency to the left is dated March 8, 1933!

Skydive Pismo Beach Today!

Skydiving in Pismo Beach... Just Plain Awesome
Know what's awesome? One word: Skydiving.

Know what's even more awesome? Skydiving in Pismo Beach. There is nothing like hurtling toward Earth at 120 miles an hour in absolute free fall. As the whirling wind creates a cushion, one feels as though they are floating in the clouds. It's the once-in-a-lifetime feeling of flying that you never get to experience from the seat of an airplane.

New to Pismo Beach, this is a must for any daredevil to experience. And really, you couldn't ask for a better place to dive.

Skydive Pismo Beach is a tandem skydiving school, which mean every novice jumper is strapped to a certified expert. Then again, if you want a real thrill, you can take extra lessons and jump solo.

For more details, visit SkyDivePismoBeach.com!

And after you recover from your "fall," be sure to stay at Valentina Inn & Villas, located less than 2 blocks from the beach. Our breathtaking views are sure to take your breath away (though maybe not as much as that skydive).

The 805 Lifestyle . . . It's All About How Much You Chill

The Unofficial Shirt for
Pismo Beach Vacationers & Valentina Guests

You work almost the whole year (or maybe you don't). But now is your chance to take some time off and pass some rejuvenating time at the beach. What better place than Pismo Beach, CA?

California claims to be the home of classic, untainted beaches with small town charm. This image thankfully still exists in none other Pismo Beach. After all, why else would Bugs Bunny want to travel all the way there?

There are so many things to do in Pismo, but at the same time, relaxation is key, and Pismo is the easiest place to chill. Taking a nap on the beach as you soak in the sun, going out for a stroll on the pier, shopping or window shopping in Downtown Pismo, wine tasting in the Edna Valley . . . our town is the perfect place to chillax.

Whether you're taking the family along, spending time with friends, or simply want to take that romantic getaway with that special person in your life, Pismo Beach is the ideal destination. And while you're in Pismo, be sure to stay at Valentina Inn & Villas centrally located less than 2 blocks from the beach. Our villas accommodate 4-8 comfortably and are filled with countless amenities including gourmet kitchens, living rooms/dining areas, washer/dryers, and more.

Take your last opportunity to chillax before the summer ends at Valentina Inn & Villas.

Celebrating “Old Glory” . . . Pismo Beach Style

Yes . . . It's that time of year again. A time where tourists and residents alike will gaze mindlessly at the night sky as Pismo Beach finds itself lit up in its full pyrotechnic splendor. Indeed  . . . the 4th of July Fireworks Celebration-- Pismo Beach's claim to fame (up there with Pismo Bob's Hardware)-- is quickly approaching.

Year after year, this annual Pismo Beach tradition makes the famous firework shows of Disneyland and NYC look like a spontaneous blast of Roman Candles.* As Valentina staff member (and Judkins Middle School 8th grader) Matthew Pringle says, "It's kind of a big deal."

With this extravagant celebration so close to Valentina Inn & Villas, Pismo Beach's newest resort, the choice for accommodations becomes almost too simple. Why not take the best seat in the house right there on your spacious Valentina balcony. Kick your feet up, sip on some local wine, and share some good times with your family or friends without getting trampled by all the crowds near the Pismo Pier.

And while you're at Valentina, enjoy our other fine amenities: a full gourmet kitchen, a living room with a state-of-the-art entertainment center, hi-fidelity surround sound system (to play your favorite patriotic anthems), and all the signature appliances you need to make your stay convenient and comfortable.

In addition, we offer secure, complimentary garage parking (always a problem for 4th of July attendees), and free, high-speed internet.

Our number of available suites is quickly diminishing, so reserve now at Valentina Inn & Villas today by calling 805-773-1234 or by visiting the reservations page of our website at http://ValentinaPismoBeach.com/reservations.html!

Valentina . . . Your Villa Awaits!

*Note: the fireworks analogy may be an exaggeration. Nonetheless, the show is quite spectacular.

Get Out Your Clamforks . . . The Annual Pismo Beach Clam Festival is Here!

The 64th Annual Pismo Beach Clam Festival
Pismo Beach, CA
Reserve your
Valentina villa today!
As any Pismo Beach resident or long-time visitor could tell you, Pismo was always known for its outrageous clams. Just ask Bugs Bunny. So like any quaint beach town, we need to celebrate that which defines the community. The Pismo Beach Clam Festival is celebrating its 64th year of good times and good food. This fun-filled celebration is from October 15th-17th, and will feature a live parade, beer garden, clam chowder cook-off, wine tasting, surf contest, sandcastle contest, food, music and much, much more.

"[Guests] can’t help but be lured by the new tasting attractions," says the New Times of SLO. Festivities include "a champagne and caviar tasting, a clam chowder cook-off featuring 10 Pismo Beach restaurants with professional judges and a people’s choice award, a beer garden on the beach, and a wine walk through many participating Pismo Beach businesses.

"Each event will require a ticket,  . . . but you can save quite a bit of money buying the VIP weekend ticket for $60, which includes the wine walk and commemorative wineglass, beer garden, clam chowder cook-off, champagne and caviar, VIP seating for movies and bandstand, a T-shirt, and a badge.

"On Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., a beer garden will be featuring four beers on tap: Coors Light, Sierra Nevada, Negra Modelo, and Pacifico, which sponsored the beer garden. They’ll be serving fresh pretzels and feature a VW car display; tickets cost $25 for one day only.
And you can't miss the Clam Chowder cook-off on Saturday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with features 10 restaurants: Cracked Crab, Me & Z’s, Penny’s All American Café, Rosa’s Ristorante, Splash Café, Steamer’s Pismo Beach, and Ventana Grill, among others. The ticket price is only $6 to taste all 10 chowders and vote for the people’s favorite.
On Sunday, the beer garden re-opens, and your VIP badge gets you in once more. The badge also gets you into the champagne and caviar tasting. This event, sponsored by Gather Wine Bar owner Kari Ziegler, offers Central Coast bubblies from Arroyo Robles and Laetitia. The sparkling wines, including a non-alcoholic version, and “reverse mimosas” made of sparkling blood orange juice and Pinot Blanc, will be paired with an array of seafood on the raw bar. It will include caviar, oysters, ceviche, sushi, and cooked dishes like steamed clams, plus much more. The individual ticket price is $35. As you can see, the Pismo Beach Clam Festival is a much better value when you buy the weekend VIP badge. Bring a good appetite.
And while you're enjoying this wonderful celebration, be sure to stay at Valentina Inn & Villas in Pismo Beach, CA. Located just 2 blocks from the beach, you are surrounded by all the great festivities and attractions, as well as spectacular ocean views. Pismo Celebrates the 54th Annual St. Anthony's Festival

54th Annual St. Anthony's Celebration
Parade (courtesy of Santa Maria Times)
Portuguese descendents flocked from the San Joaquin Valley to Pismo Beach this weekend for the 54th Annual St. Anthony's Celebration. The Portuguese “festa,” which recognizes St. Anthony of Padua in Portugal, includes the traditional procession of altars and queens and their courts from near Pismo Pier through the downtown streets to St. Paul the Apostle Church on Bello Street, where Mass was celebrated.

After Mass, the festivities proceeded to the festa grounds at the end of the street, where sopas ( beef and cabbage stew with bread)  was served to any and all who showed up.

St. Anthony was born 1195 in Lisbon, Portugal. He was a Franciscan monk and orator. He possessed in an eminent degree all the good qualities that characterize an eloquent preacher: a loud and clear voice, a winning countenance, wonderful memory, and profound learning, to which were added from on high the spirit of prophecy and an extraordinary gift of miracles. He is the patron saint of sailors, pregnant women, amputees and fishermen as well as the poor. (http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/01556a.htm)

Be sure to check out the festivities today, or come back August of 2011 to witness this beautiful celebration.

And when you return next year, be sure to stay at Valentina Inn & Villas in Pismo Beach, CA, located on Price Street, less than two blocks from the beach. Valentina's spacious suites are perfect for large groups of family and friends, and also make for the perfect romantic getaway.

Reserve today at ValentinaPismoBeach.com.

Italian, Thai, Seafood, American, and other European cuisines will be sure to tickle your tastebuds as you stroll down Price Street- a street that Pismo locals appropriately call the "Restaurant Row" of Pismo Beach.

For almost 20 years, Giuseppe's has been known throughout the central coast -- and beyond -- for great wine and Italian food. It's Italian regional specialties come from the Pugliese region in Italy. Enjoy and appreciate their great loyalty to the distinctive dishes, all of which they prepare with genuine and natural ingredients and methods. Their bread is baked from scratch every day in a wood-burning oven imported from Italy.  Wood-firing also gives their pizzas, which are made with fresh and specialty ingredients, a delicious gourmet flavor. Their pastas, with their full nutty flavor and al dente qualities, are either made here on the premises or are imported from Italy. They feature imported Pecorino Romano, Grana Parmigiano, imported porcini mushrooms, and the best meats, olives and fine wines available, all in an effort to bring the classic taste of the Italian countryside to your dining table.
